Shirley Junior boys wrap up winning season

The Shirley Junior High Blue Devils Boys Basketball team finished its 2013-2014 season with a win over the Greers Ferry West Side Eagles to clinch the 1A-2 South Junior High District. The also were the Conference champions, by remaining undefeated in regular conference play.

The Blue Devils District playoffs started with the Rural Special Rebels, where the Blue Devils dispatched the Rebels with a decisive 51-13 victory. Freshman Jed Privitt led the Blue Devils with 12 points, followed by Joe Owen with 11.

The Blue Devils than sank the Concorn Pirates hopes with a 46-15 victory. Once again Privitt led Shirley’s scoring, putting in 10 points; and Owen and Daniel Strempke added 8 points each.

The finals pitted the West Side Eagles and the Shirley Blue Devils. Both teams played well and at the half the Blue Devils led 25-19. Shirley charged out after the half, widening the gap and the final score was 56-41. The Blue Devils was led to victory by freshman Easton Freeman with 17 points, 15 of which were 3-pointers. Strempke, also a freshman, helped out with 16 points, and Privitt contributed 15 points.
