Junior Jackets win at home against Vilonia

The 2013 Clinton Junior High Yellow Jackets opened the season with a 20-14 home win over the Vilonia Eagles at Jim Tumlison Field on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

The Jackets started the game by driving down the field to score when Jake Ferrell ran for a 15-yard touchdown. Kort Weaver threw to Mitchell McNeill for the 2-point conversion. Clinton 8-0.

The Clinton offensive line, led by Gunnar Ward, D.C. Fulbright, Michael Delay, Jeremiah Roberson and Stiles Booher, blocked well all night, both protecting the quarterback and allowing the runners to gain valuable yards.

After Vilonia scored, the Jackets quickly regained the lead when Dalton Hoyle ran in a 1-yard touchdown. The Eagles tied the score, 14-14, at the end of the first half.

The second half began with Weaver recovering a Vilonia fumble caused by Delay and others. Avery Bramlett ran in a 27-yard touchdown to finish the night’s scoring. Clinton 20-14.

Offensive leaders included: Hoyle, 15 rushes for 63 “tough” yards; Bramlett, 11 for 90 yards; Ferrell, eight for 62 yards; and McNeill, nine for 80 yards.

Defense leaders were: Wyatt McCoy and Weaver, seven tackles; Booher, five tackles; Hoyle, four tackles and a fumble recovery; Brad Ames, three tackles; Ferrell, three tackles, a fumble recovered and a “bone-crushing” pass broken-up play; and Delay, a fumble recovery.

Next game is Thursday, Sept. 12, 7 p.m. at home against the Highland. Hope to see you there.
