Junior Jackets win first conference game

The 2013 Clinton Junior High Yellow Jackets football team opened conference play with a 26-0 win over Marianna at Jim Tumlison Field on Thursday, Sept. 19.

The Jackets scored on their first possession when Mitchell McNeill ran 18 yards for a touchdown. Kort Weaver passed to Avery Bramlett for the 2-point conversion. Clinton 8-0.

McNeill scored again in the first quarter on a 31-yard touchdown run. Clinton 14-0.

In the second quarter, Bramlett ran in a 22-yard TD and McNeill ran in a touchdown from 19 yards out. Clinton 26-0 halftime.

Defensive leaders include: Stiles Booher six tackles; Cody Morris five tackles; Wyatt McCoy five tackles plus one sack; Hunter McHam four tackles; three tackles each for Hunter Passmore, Alexander Cooley, Bramlett and Bryce Billings. Tate Grissom had a big interception and Andrew Kozma recovered a fumble created by Nate Lonnon and Booher.

Offensive leaders were: McNeill five carries for 81 yards; Jake Ferrell two for 62 yards; Bramlett four for 46 yards; and Weaver, Lonnon, McHam, Billings, McCoy and Morris together gained 65 yards on 19 carries.

Next game is Thursday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. at Batesville-Southside following the seventh-grade game. Hope to see you there!
