The 2013 Clinton Junior High Yellow Jacket football team defeated the Newport Greyhounds 32-6 on Thursday, Oct. 17, at Newport.
The Jackets controlled most of the first quarter clock and scored when Wyatt McCoy ran in a 1 yard touchdown. Avery Bramlett ran in the 2 point play. Clinton 8-0.
Newport scored early in the 2nd half to wake up these young Jackets with the score 8-6.
Bryce Billings ran for 45 yards, aided by a big block by Tate Grissom, followed by a 4 yard TD run by McCoy. Bramlett got the 2 point conversion. Clinton 16-6.
Coach Chris Dufrene had Hunter McHam onside kick, which was recovered by Regan McGaha at the Newport 49 yard line.
The 3rd quarter ended with McCoy scoring a 2 yard TD and Billings running in the 2 pointer. Clinton 24-6.
The last quarter was dominated by Cody Morris as he ran for a 14 yard TD, scored the 2 point play and ended the game with an interception at the Newport goal line.
Defensive leaders include: Alexander Cooley 9 tackles; 6 tackles each for Stiles Booher, and McCoy; Andrew Kozma 5 tackles; 3 tackles each for Brad Amos, Hunter Passmore and Bramlett. Booher also had a fumble recovery.
Offensive leaders were: Billings 7 carries for 89 yards; McCoy 18 for 78 yards; Bramlett 10 for 56 yards; McHam, Morris, Nate Lonnon and Amos together with 9 for 38 yards.
Clinton Junior High is now 5-2 overall with a 4-1 conference record. The next game is Thursday, Oct. 24, at home vs. Heber Springs. These Jackets need a big home crowd, hope to see you there!
