Junior Jackets defeat Batesville

By Dr. Jamie Beavers

The Clinton Junior High Yellow Jackets football team continued their winning ways as they defeated Batesville Southside 30-14 Thursday, Sept. 26.

The Jackets used up most of the first quarter scoring on a 4-yard touchdown run by Wyatt McCoy. Mitchell McNeill ran in the 2 pointer. Clinton 8-0.

McNeill dominated the second quarter by running in two 9-yard touchdowns. Hunter McHam passed to Avery Bramlett for 2 points. Clinton 22-6 at the half.

The Southside Southerners came out of half-time fired up and drove down the field until the Jackets had a “great defensive stand” at the Clinton 1 yard line. Clinton kept the Southerners out of the end zone and on the Jackets first offensive play, Bramlett ran around the end for a 99-yard touchdown dash. McNeill ran in the 2 pointer again. Clinton 30-14.

Offensive leaders were: Bramlett 5 carries for 144 yards; McNeill 6 for 89 yards; Kort Weaver 3 for 29 yards, while Nate Lonnon, McCoy and Cody Morris combined for 37 yards on 9 carries.

Defensive leaders include: McCoy 8 tackles; 7 tackles for both Stiles Booher and Morris, Bramlett 6 tackles; and 5 tackles each for Tate Grissom and Alexander Cooley.

These Jackets have a 3-1 record overall but more importantly are 2-0 in conference play.

The Clinton Junior High team will play at Pine Bluff Dollarway at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3. Hope to see you there!
