Jackets over Southerners 34-7

By Tim Clark

This past Friday night was Homecoming and your Clinton Yellow Jackets took the field for their second conference game of the 2013 season hosting the Southside Batesville Southerners.

The Jackets displayed a great deal of efficiency, scoring on 5 of 7 possessions and gaining 395 yards of total offense.

The offense was led by quarterback Fielder Dufrene who rushed for 149 yards, completed 3 passed for 40 yards and scored 2 touchdowns.

Drew Farmer also found the end zone on one of his 7 runs for a total of 25 yards. Carrying the ball on eight occasions for the Jackets was Mason Speer for 58 yards.

Nathan Teague made every opportunity count with 15 yards rushing, 1 interception and 1 touchdown. The bull of the woods, Harrison Lester, got the job done with 25 yards rushing and 1 touchdown.

If I could describe the Jackets defense Friday night in one sentence it would be in the immortal words of Grandma Clump, “You walkin over but you limpin back.” The Jackets defense was punishing.

Leading the swarm was senior Caden Hickman with 6 tackles and in on many others. Teague, Hunter Blanton and Rex Fletcher each had 5 tackles with Blanton making 1 interception.

The hit man, Wyatt Fletcher had 4 tackles and 1 blocked kick. Stephen Sappington and the two towers, Alex Clark and Colton Martin, each had 3 tackles with Sappington getting 1 QB sack. Lester completes the Jackets swarm with 4 tackles.

The final score was your Clinton Yellow Jackets 34 and the SS Batesville Southerners 7. This brings the Jackets overall record to 3-2 and 2-0 in conference play.

The Jackets take the field again on Friday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. when they host Pine Bluff Dollarway. This will be the Jackets third conference game of the season, so come out and help the keep the win streak going. Go Jackets!
