The Jackets traveled to Stuttgart this past Friday night to take on the Ricebirds in their fourth conference game.
It was a night filled with big plays, mishaps, and a lot of yellow flags flying around. Most of the offense was generated by quarterback Fielder Dufrene and running back Mason Speer.
Dufrene rushed for 89 yards, passed for 135 yards and had one touchdown. Speer rushed for 174 yards, had 40 yards in receptions and two touchdowns.
Sam Phillips and Drew Farmer actually teamed up on one of the Jackets touchdowns. Phillips make a great leaping catch in the end zone but fumbled when he hit the ground. Farmer dived into the end zone to recover the ball for a touchdown.
Stephen Sappington and Robby Slack had a combined 89 yards rushing, and Slack had three receptions for 33 yards. Harrison Lester and Sappington each carried the ball four times for a combined 72 yards.
The defense was led by Lester and Colton Martin. Lester had a remarkable 8 tackles with Martin not far behind with 6.
There were several Jackets with 5 tackles and they are Sappington, Farmer, Caden Hickman, Speer and Alex Clark.
Ending the night with 3 tackles were Slack, Rex Fletcher and Jesus Robles. Robles also had the only QB sack of the night.
In the end the Jackets couldn’t shake the turnover bug and had a hard time stopping the big running plays of the Ricebirds. The final score was Clinton 27 and Stuttgart 35. This brings the Jackets conference record to 2-2 and an overall record of 3-4.
The Jackets will be back in action Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. when they host Newport. It’s at home and it’s another important conference game so let’s get out and support the Jackets.
