Hornets head to state finals

The South Side-Bee Branch Hornets are headed for the Class 1A state championship baseball game Friday.

The Hornets slid past Taylor on Saturday, 7-6, in Mountain Home. In last year’s championship game, Taylor defeated the Hornets 3-2.

Mason Duncan lead off for the Hornets with a single, and Garrett Collums hit a triple, scoring three runners, and later reaching home himself for a 4-0 lead. Taylor came back to score 2 runs in the bottom of the first.

The game was tied at 5 after the third inning, but the Hornets took the lead for good in the fourth.

The Hornets are 25-6 for the season.

The championship game will be played at 7 p.m. Friday at Baum Stadium in Fayetteville. South Side will face Armorel, who beat Ouachita 2-1.
