The Clinton Cardinals played Hector at Atkins on June 20, and won the game won 13-0.

The starting pitcher was Jake “Buzzman” Bell, a lefty out of California and a graduate of Arkansas Tech, who probably threw fast balls in the mid-80’s. He pitched 4 innings and did not allow a run, striking out nine Hector players. He was caught by Chas “Cadillac” Tamburo who also went 1 for 3 at the plate.

“Buzzman” was followed by Nathan “Steady” Smith who pitched three innings, did not allow a run and struck out three Hector batters. The game was closed by Mason “Magic Man” Faulkner, who just came off Tommy John surgery and pitched the last two innings, throwing 35 pitches, striking out two Hector batters, and also did not allow a run. “Magic Man” is a graduate of Nemo Vista High School and is going to play baseball at Crowder College in Missouri.

Jake “Stonewall” Hink went 2 for 6 and was hit by a pitch. Kendall “Dizzy Dean” Bates went 2 for 4 with a walk. Trey “The Hurricane” Austin went 2 for 4, with a walk, and had a home run. This was a line drive shot that left the park in a hurry over the left centerfield wall. Derek “Dee” Blasingame went 3 for 3 with 2 walks. Victor “Papi” Abiseid went 3 for 4, Trevor “Dynamite” Lay went 1 for 4, Robbie “The Franchise” McKnight went 1 for 3 with two walks. Nicholas “The Cannon” Tester came in to finish the game catching the last 2 pitchers. Nick does a very good job behind the plate, has an excellent arm and is also coming out of Tommy John surgery and recovering well.

Colson “Shoeless” Tester went 2 for 2, Rico “The Rocket” Edmonson went 1 for 4. John “Rebel” Robertson came back to play with the Cardinals this year and is an excellent catcher but played third base this game. Jake “Half” Blasingame, who was the mascot when he was 4 years old, and would run after foul balls, wipe down baseballs and run bases after each game, is now playing with the team and doing a good job in the outfield.

The Cardinals played the Little Rock A’s in Little Rock on July 27, then have a home game on Aug. 3 against Conway.
