Cardinals lose to Nicaragua

The Clinton Cardinals played Nicaragua on July 15, 2012, at home losing 7-6. The team from Nicaragua got ahead in the first three innings and scored 6 runs due to hit batters, a walk and past balls, which made 6-0. On the bottom of the third, the Cardinals scored 1 on a single by Cuyler Marty, a double by Jake “Stonewall” Hink and an infield hit by Fielder “Shoeless” DuFrene. Starting pitcher was Kendall “Dizzy Dean” Bates who threw the first three innings and struck out two. Nathan “Steady” Smith took over pitching and struck out five and Nicaragua did not score anymore. The Cardinals came back in the sixth inning with 4 runs on a base hit by Marty, a double by Derek “D” Blasingame, a double by Trevor “Dynamite” Lay and a single by Bates. The game was tied at the bottom of the 8th on a double by Robbie “The Franchise” McKnight and a single by Lay. Nicaragua came back with a single stolen base, then while steeling third base, there was a throwing error by the catcher to third base and Nicaragua scored the seventh run. Clinton Cardinals could not come back and score in the bottom of the ninth and were retired.

The Clinton Cardinals have a busy schedule and will be playing Union Chappel and the Little Rock A’s at Lamar Porter Field in Little Rock. Clinton Cardinals have been giving runs early in games through errors and mental mistakes and ineffective pitching early in the season but hopefully will be corrected. You can’t keep giving early leads and try to come back and win in the end.
