The Clinton Cardinals semi-pro baseball team played the Little Rock Rangers on July 14, 2013, at the Curtis Walker Stadium in Conway.
The Cardinals starting pitcher was Nathan “Steady” Smith, who had a shaky start, giving up 5 runs in the first inning, walking two and allowing four base hits. However, he settled down after the first inning, allowing no more runs that entire game.
Smith pitched four more innings, retiring four on strike outs.
Chris “Split Finger” McMurrie came in to close the game, allowing no further runs for the Rangers and striking out one.
Trevor “Dynamite” Lay went 1 for 4; Derek “D” Blasingame went 2 for 3 with a double; McMurrie went 1 for 4; Jose Abiseid went 1 for 2; and Kendal “Dizzy Dean” Bates went 1 for 3.
The Cardinals scored 4 runs in this game, and in the last inning had a tying run on second base by Blasingame. However, a base running mistake, over running third base, got him out.
The Cardinals overall had a good game with good hitting and pitching, except for the first inning, but the Cardinals came out short 5-4.
The next game will be played at Hector and then there will be three home games the next three weekends.
