These dogs are among 17 at Van Buren Animal Control that are out of time. If you have room in your heart and your home, you can save a life. Time is of the essence for these dogs whose only crime is that nobody wants them. They go by the names (from top left) Butch, Buddy, Jane, Jasper, Max, Jack, James, Bones and Jessie. Contact animal control at 745-2121 for more information. The cost to rescue a dog or cat is $25 for county residents, and some of those animals already have had the fee paid by a sponsor.

The youngest member of the family, Mason Hutto, 1, takes a good look at the oldest, Amon Wood, 98, at the Pennington family reunion held Aug. 23 at the home of George and Glynna Pennington Condray in Bee Branch. The reunion was for the descendants of Killis J. and Elizabeth Bradford Pennington who homesteaded in Van Buren County in 1860. Mason is the son of Matt and Chaila Pennington Hutto of Damascus. He is the great-great-great-great-grandchild of Amon Wood, whose parents were Richard and Aly Pennington Wood, and who is a great-grandchild of the original settlers. Fifty-three family members attended the gathering.

Ramona Drenner, formerly of Clinton, Arkansas, will be celebrating her 85th birthday with a card shower. She was born in 1929 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She married Clifford Drenner on March 19, 1950. He died in 2010. She has four children, David (MarySue Bartlett) of Cedar Falls, Bill (Martha) of Waterloo, Iowa, Candi (Tom Kegelman) Talley of Amherst, Mass., and Peggy (Doug) Shaffer of Jesup, Iowa. She also has 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Birthday wishes may be mailed to: Ramona Drenner 5500 S. Main St., Cedar Falls, IA 50613.
