The Clinton High School Fine Arts Department and Friends of CHS will present its spring musical presentation next month at the high school auditorium. This year’s production is The Music Man with book, music and lyrics by Meredith Wilson, based on a story by Willson and Franklin Lacey. The presentation involves 44 performers, two-thirds of those from Clinton schools and 15 adults from the community and school faculty. Auditions were held in October and work on the production has continued since. Performances are 7 p.m. nightly April 4-6. Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for students and $2 for children under 5. Tickets are on sale at local banks.
Take a stand
April is national child abuse prevention month and the Children’s Advocacy Alliance is hosting a flag-raising ceremony at noon Thursday, April 4, at the Van Buren County Courthouse to kick off the month.
All Van Buren County residents are welcome to join with County Judge Roger Hooper in sending a message of hope to the 53 children who were victims of abuse in Van Buren County in 2012. Van Buren County Volunteer Coordinator Debra Lance explains, “We know that often community members feel powerless to help these children. The flag-raising ceremony is an easy way to show support.”
The ceremony will last 30 minutes and feature a performance by the Clinton High School Band. Finger food will be available following the ceremony.
Eat and greet
The Clinton High School Alumni Banquet is set for 6 p.m. Saturday, March 30, at the high school cafeteria. Tickets are $10 per person and this year’s speaker will be District Judge Susan Weaver. A silent auction also will be held with proceeds going to the Alumni Banquet fund. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
