Class set on mapping cemeteries

The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program and the Arkansas Archeological Survey will host a free cemetery mapping workshop at Oak Grove Cemetery near Winchester in Drew County on Saturday, July 19.

AHPP Special Projects Historian Holly Hope and Dr. Jodi Barnes and Jessica Howe of the Arkansas Archeological Survey will offer information on how to accurately map the historical resources in a cemetery, cemetery iconography, listing cemeteries on the National Register of Historic Places, potential funding sources and more. The four-hour workshop will begin at 8:30 a.m. on July 19.

The AHPP is the Department of Arkansas Heritage agency responsible for identifying, evaluating, registering and preserving the state’s cultural resources.
