The time and date for the Van Buren County Quorum Court meeting for August has been changed. This month’s meeting will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014. This is a change from the announcement at last month’s session that the meeting would be moved to Aug. 14. The Quorum Court meetings are usually the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. The meetings are held at the Courthouse Annex on Highway 65 in Clinton. They are open to the public.
The Arkansas State Highway Commission has approved two bids for improvements to roadways in Van Buren County, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department officials.
The purpose of the first project is to resurface 3.5 miles of County Roads 94 and 1750. The areas are east of Clinton, County Road 94, Burnt Ridge Road, extends 1 mile south from Highway 16 to Bob Hogue Road; and east of Clinton, County Road 1750, New Road, extends east 2.5 miles from Burnt Ridge Road to Banner Loop Road.
Rogers Group of Nashville, Tennessee, was awarded the contract at $403,294.42. Construction is scheduled to begin in two to four weeks, weather permitting. The project should be completed this fall.
The second bid approved by AHTD was for improvements to a roadway in Cleburne, Conway and Van Buren counties. The purpose of this project is to resurface 26.5 miles of Highway 92 in the three counties. This work includes several box culvert replacements. The work will be performed between Highway 9 and Highway 16.
Rogers Group was also awarded this contract at $4,860,156.21. This project is being funded with revenue generated from the severance tax on natural gas. Construction is scheduled to begin in two to four weeks, weather permitting. The project should be complete on or before June 12, 2015.
