A report that a woman had been run over on a road near the water treatment plant in Choctaw reached the newsroom late Tuesday afternoon. The Democrat was able to confirm the incident had occurred, but no further details were available. The victim was not killed, the paper has been told.

Arkansas State Highway Commission has approved the following bids for improvements to a roadways in Van Buren County, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department officials:

- A resurfacing project over 4 miles of Highway 336 at Choctaw. The work will extend east from Highway 65 to the Choctaw Recreation Area on Greers Ferry Lake. Delta Asphalt of Arkansas Inc. of Paragould, Arkansas, was awarded the contract at $707,905.20. Construction is scheduled to begin in two to four weeks, weather permitting. The project should be completed by this summer. This project is being funded with revenue generated from the severance tax on natural gas.

- Resurfacing 6 miles of Highway 336 near Choctaw. The work will extend east from Highway 65 to Greers Ferry Lake. Delta Asphalt was also awarded this contract at $850,916.26. Construction is scheduled to begin in two to four weeks, weather permitting. The project should be completed this summer and is funded by revenue generated from the severance tax on natural gas.

- Installation of a traffic signal at the intersection of Highway 65 and Highway 124, north of Damascus, in Van Buren County. Ewing Signal Construction, LLC of Nixa, Missouri, was awarded the contract at $146,931.65. Construction is scheduled to begin in two to four weeks, weather permitting. The project should be completed before April 24, 2015.
