Time to change

The switch to Daylight Savings Time happens this Sunday. The time changes at 2 a.m. Remember to fall back an hour or you risk being early.

Halloween

Halloween is Thursday, and there are several things to do from Trunk or Treat events to haunted houses to the downtown Clinton two-night street party. Remember as you trick-or-treat to follow some rules to stay safe.

Here are some tips from the state Attorney General’s office:

Select flame-resistant materials, masks, beards and wigs; minimize exposure to open flames, such as jack-o-lantern candles, by selecting costumes without baggy sleeves and billowing skirts; choose costumes with light, bright colors whenever possible; trim darker costumes with reflective tape; apply makeup to children’s faces instead of selecting loose-fitting masks that might restrict vision; swords, knives and other accessories should be made of soft and flexible materials; children and parents should wear sturdy, comfortable shoes with low heels.

Music

The Van Buren County Community Band will be presenting a Salute to Veterans Concert at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Clinton High School Auditorium. There will be a variety of music from the World War eras to present day tunes, and there will be Big Band Music. Come show for our veterans who have given their all to our country.

No fee

To commemorate Veterans Day the Army Corps of Engineers will waive day use fees at its recreation areas Nov. 11 for veterans, active, reserve and guard service members and their families.

This waiver includes boat launch ramp and swim beach fees. However, camping fees and reservation fees for special facilities, such as group picnic shelters, will not be waived.
