Hunters class

There will be a hunter education class from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, at the Clinton Fire Department on Highway 65B. Anyone born after Dec. 31, 1968, who wants to hunt in Arkansas is required to take this class. It is free. For more information contact Jay Hagans at 592-3984 or Mike Curtis at 253-1406.

School Board

Kyle Hensley retained his seat on the Clinton School Board, according to results from the 2013 annual election. He received 102 votes to opponent Jamie Beavers’ 66 votes. Darla McJunkins ran unopposed. In the millage vote, 116 people voted for it while 106 people opposed it. In the Shirley School District, Collene Halldorson ran unopposed. Seven people voted for the millage and two voted against it. In the South Side School District, Sancy Faulk ran unopposed. One voter backed the millage rate while two voters opposed it.

Parade time

The Clinton Homecoming Parade is set for Friday, Oct. 4. The parade will begin shortly after school lets out and will wind its way through the downtown. It will stop downtown while the school band plays. Businesses are encouraged to decorate for Homecoming. The Yellow Jackets will take on Batesville-Southside. Highway

The Arkansas State Highway Commission approved a bid for improvements to roadways in Van Buren and White counties, according to Transportation Department officials. The purpose of the project is to construct weigh inspection pads at various locations. In Van Buren County, the location is on Highway 9 between Maxine Road and Round Spring Road, south of Clinton. Bobby Kennedy Construction Co. of Quitman was awarded the contract at $604,171.68. Construction is scheduled to begin in one to three weeks, weather permitting. The project should be complete by spring 2014.
