The Van Buren County sheriff’s office has received an AFIS (Automated Fingerprint Identification System) machine that uses digitized images of individual fingerprints and compares them to a database of stored images, in search of a potential exact or partial match. The machine returns results much more quickly than previous machinery, according to the sheriff’s office. Van Buren is among several counties that have received or will be receiving an AFIS machine from the state.
Arkansas is one of the country’s 10 most depressed states, according to Health.com. Data from federal health agencies was used to rank the states that have the highest rates of depression, psychological distress, and other indicators of poor mental health.
The website says like the many other rural Southern states on its list, “Arkansas consistently ranks among the worst in the nation on several measures of mental health, especially among young adults.”
The list also includes Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, Oklahoma, Tennessee and West Virginia.
