Dr. Ben Mays will hold annual spring rabies clinics on the Saturdays of June 8 and June 15 with various scheduled stops around Van Buren County. Vaccination clinics will also be held in Clinton on the Thursday evenings of June 13 and June 20.
The annual rabies vaccination clinic is a reduced cost immunization drive held each year to help pet owners comply with the Arkansas Rabies Control Act that requires regular vaccination for all dogs and cats administered by a licensed veterinarian.
Rabies is a deadly viral disease to both humans and animals, and is best prevented by vaccinating companion animals. Rabies virus is endemic in the skunk and bat populations, and since pets are the most likely link between wildlife and humans, maintaining a high level of immunity in our pet population is paramount in preventing human exposure.
A schedule of the clinics will appear in next week’s edition of the Van Buren County Democrat.
