Relay for Life begins at 6 p.m. Friday at the Clinton City Park. There will be a 2.5K Glow Walk/Run at 9:30 p.m. Other events include a hot-dog eating contest, a Survivor Walk, face painting, music by The Nelsons and Gwen Bradley, a Luminaria Service and more. To register, call Susie at 253-1269.
On April 12, 2013, Van Buren County sheriff’s deputies received a call that a theft was in progres off Lynn Creek Road. Deputies arrived to find that the property owner had blocked in a suspect who appeared to be in the process of “scraping” the structures for copper, according to a report from the sheriff’s office. The suspect, who claimed to have stopped to relieve himself, was found inside one of the buildings with a cutting tool nearby. Jackie Sanders, 42, of Marshall was arrested at the scene and charged with theft of property, criminal trespass and criminal mischief.
U.S. Rep. Tim Griffin will be in Van Buren County Wednesday, May 1, to tour areas struck by the April 10 tornado. He will visit the Rotary Club of Fairfield Bay then meet up with County Judge Roger Hooper to tour the scene.
The Clinton Area Rotary Club will hear from a representative of McClelland Engineering at its meeting Wednesday, April 1, at Western Sizzlin. The city of Clinton is talking with the engineering firm about plans for cleaning the water from Greers Ferry Lake. The Rotary Club welcomes guests.
The Van Buren County Quorum Court passed a resolution at its last meeting thanking all of the volunteers and first-responders for their help during the April 10 tornado recovery effort. The resolution says the volunteer efforts in the county are “unparalleled in many parts of our nation.”
