What’s Going On

Clinton High School will be having its annual Prom Parade at 6:45 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013, downtown at the Courthouse. In case of bad weather it will be held at the high school auditorium. The community is welcome to come out and watch about 80 high school students on their way to the 2013 Junior/Senior Prom.

Joy DeClerk with The Nature Conservancy will make a presentation and provide updates about the Archey Fork Restoration Project, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, at the Clinton Municipal Airport Conference Room.

Leaders from Arkansans for Responsible Gas Development, all residents of Van Buren, Faulkner and Cleburne counties, successfully passed the Landowner Notification Act on Saturday. The act bridges the information gap between surface owners and natural gas producers in the shale play. Surface owners in the shale expressed a need for notification of oncoming construction activities. The LNA allows surface owners time to relocate fences, livestock, and log trees for profit that would otherwise be cut, piled, and burned. It received bi-partisan sponsorship with Greg Leding (District 86) as the lead sponsor in the House. Jason Rapert and Missy Irvin were the lead sponsors in the Senate. The act does not conflict with mineral rights.

The Children’s Advocacy Alliance’s Flag Raising Ceremony in recognition of child abuse prevention month, previously scheduled for Thursday, April 4, will now take place on Thursday, April 18. The event was rescheduled due to weather conditions. The flag raising ceremony will last 30 minutes and feature a performance by the Clinton High School Band. Finger foods will be served.
