Shooting in Alread injures woman

A man has been charge in the shooting of his wife Saturday night in Alread.

According to the Van Buren County sheriff’s office, a 911 call came in on April 12 from a neighbor of the couple, who live at 17614 Highway 16 West.

The caller told emergency dispatch that the suspect had phoned him to report the incident.

Deputies, assisted by Arkansas State Police responded to the address to find Patty Reahard lying near the front door with a gunshot wound to her upper back, according to the sheriff’s office.

The suspect was still on the scene and was quickly apprehended with out a struggle, the report said.

Mark Reahard, 57, of Alread was arrested and taken to the Van Buren County Detention center. Armed with a search warrant, investigators with the sheriff’s office and the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division processed the crime scene the next morning.

Mark Reahard is facing charges of first degree battery and was awaiting a bond hearing Tuesday.
