A man was killed and his passenger injured in a one-car accident Sunday morning.

Glen A. Showalter, 49, of Shirley was driving a 1998 Ford Explorer west on Burnt Ridge Road about 11:20 a.m. Sunday, June 30, when he lost control of the vehicle after negotiating a curve, according to a report by Arkansas State Police Cpl. James Ault.

The report said the vehicle left the north side of Burnt Ridge Road about a mile south of Highway 16. The Explorer overturned, crossed both lanes of the highway, then left the south side of the highway where it overturned several times, according to the report. The vehicle came to rest in a private field. The victim was ejected from the Explorer, Ault wrote.

Injured in the accident was Velta Mae Wilson, 48, of Shirley, the report said. She was transported by helicopter to UAMS in Little Rock.

The report said that at the time of the crash, the weather condition was cloudy and the road was dry.
