Kids can make “change” happen.

Upon hearing of the loss and devastation last month’s tornadoes caused in Central Arkansas, students and faculty at Shirley Elementary wanted to do something to make a difference for those affected by the life-altering storms.

Beginning May 5, students began bringing their spare change to donate. By the morning of May 9 students already had collected $134.57 and the giving hasn’t stopped. As a result of this students have been learning that it doesn’t take much to help others and when everyone - even kids - gives a little, others can benefit greatly.

The goal of this project has been to help students, parents, and faculty focus on the act of service instead of the tragedy of the situation. The change drive will continue until June 2. Funds will be deposited to an account set up by Regions Bank to benefit those affected by the recent storms.
