Shirley gets ready for Homecoming

Homecoming was the main item on the agenda for the Shirley City Council at its May 13 meeting.

Treasurer Melissa Worthing said the city has received $750 in sponsorship money, and that as the Platinum sponsor First Service bank will get its name on the official 2013 Homecoming T-shirts.

The council set prize money for the winning parade floats at $200 for first place, $100 for second and $50 for third. The parade will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, and Councilman Floyd Haley will be grand marshal. No four-wheelers will be allowed in the parade unless they are pulling a float.

The Lucky Ducky races will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, according to Margaret Earnhart, and Darla Privitt said sign-up for kids games will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The council decided that there would be a seven-day limit for campers using the free campsites. They also will replace a broken window in the Community Center and repair some wiring at the museum.

The council’s next regularly scheduled meeting will be June 10.
