Sheriff’s office investigating death

The Van Buren County sheriff’s office is investigating the death of a Shirley woman.

The woman, Shirley Holland, described by neighbors as being in her 70s, died Feb. 7 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Little Rock.

The sheriff’s office said the woman’s death came eight days after a domestic incident involving Holland and her son at her residence on Highway 110 on Jan. 31, 2013.

Holland called for assistance during the altercation, the sheriff’s office said. She had sustained what appeared to be minor injuries, but refused medical attention at the scene, according to the news release from the sheriff’s office.

On Feb. 2, 2013, Holland walked to a neighbor’s house complaining that her head hurt, the news release said. The neighbor called 911 and Holland was transported to Clinton, then taken to the Little Rock hospital where she died Feb. 7.

The sheriff’s office did not release the name of Holland’s son. The investigation is continuing.
