A resident of Scotland Formosa road reported that his 16-foot tandem axle trailer had been stolen from his home.
Later that evening on Jan. 14, deputies came in contact with a trailer fitting the description but were unable to make a positive identification. The course of the investigation led sheriff’s investigators to a residence off Dawn Road in Scotland.
There investigators were able to identify the stolen trailer parked in the driveway, according to a news release from the Van Buren County sheriff’s office. A search warrant for the residence was obtained. Investigators found the stolen trailer and discovered a stolen Kawasaki Mule, belonging to a Bee Branch resident, concealed on the property that had been stolen the night before but had not yet been reported, the sheriff’s office said.
Christopher Trey Dehart, 18, of Scotland was arrested near the scene the same day. He is charged with two counts of felony theft of property. Dehart is currently being held at the Van Buren County Detention Center on a no-bond hold.
The recovered trailer, valued at $2,500, and the recovered Kawasaki Mule, valued at $5,000, were each returned to the owners.
