A resolution approved at last month’s Van Buren County Quorum Court meeting has not set well with some residents.
At the November meeting, the justices of the peace agreed to a request from the Arkansas Highway Department to take in parts of Highways 330 East and Highway 336 East in return for continuing work on Highway 65. The department said the roads would be in good repair when they are transferred.
Some residents, however, say that the cost is more than the county needs to bear and that the resolution was approved in haste without justices of the peace seeing the resolution ahead of the meeting.
One of those objecting to the transaction is D.L. Webb. He says that among other things, the move will hurt property values and affect property assessments. He says this could be a money-losing move for the county.
Webb said he has been placed on the agenda for the Quorum Court meeting this week to address his concerns.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at the County Courthouse Annex on Highway 65 in Clinton.
