Reckless-driver call ends in arrest

The Van Buren County sheriff’s office received a call Sept. 16, 2013, of a reckless driver in a white van that looked like it had been “chopped” to look like a pickup.

The caller stated that the vehicle looked like it was heading into oncoming traffic, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. A second call then came in to report that the vehicle had pulled over and it was believed that the driver had a gun.

The caller was heading to his home on Highway 336 East when he encountered the vehicle on Highway 65, according to court documents. It appeared that the vehicle was trying to hit the caller’s vehicle, according to the report.

The caller told police he pulled over to allow the van to go by, but the driver stopped. The caller then drove off with the van driving alongside, the release said.

The van then drove off, turned around and drove straight at the caller’s vehicle, according to the release. The caller then pulled into a driveway and called 911.

He stated that the van left, but returned minutes later to block him in, the sheriff’s office said. The driver of the van asked the caller if he was having car trouble. The caller said he was. That is when the driver of the van threatened the caller, the release said. The caller told deputies he saw a shotgun pointed out the window of the vehicle. The caller then fled the area by driving through the grass and called 911 again. He drove to the sheriff’s office.

Charlie Hicks, 43, of Clinton was arrested a short time later and charged with aggravated assault. He is being held without bond at the Van Buren County Detention Center.

Woman arrested

On Sept. 16, 2013, the Van Buren County sheriff’s office investigated an alleged kidnapping that stemmed from an earlier incident at the same address.

The reporting party alleged that Krystal Bigelow, 33, of Clinton had taken him and their mutual child at gunpoint where they were forced to drive around, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. During this trip, Bigelow allegedly made threats to kill the driver, the release said.

It is also reported that Bigelow fired a .44 magnum inside the cab of the truck into the floor board. The drive ended some time later at a residence off of Cullum Lane in the Choctaw area, the news release states.

Krystal Bigelow was arrested a short time later and another residence without incident. She is being held on $125,000 bond at the county jail. The charges include two counts of kidnapping, aggravated assault, felony terroristic threatening and felony child endangerment.
