Pot plants found near Scotland

The Van Buren County sheriff’s office assisted the Arkansas Eradication Enforcement team and the 20th Judicial Drug Crime Task Force in a marijuana eradication operation recently in Van Buren County. The ERAD operation flew military-style helicopters throughout Van Buren County in a effort to discover marijuana plants. An area of the county revealed approximately 25 plants near the Scotland area. This case is under investigation, but anyone who would like to claim their missing marijuana plants should contact the Van Buren County sheriff’s office at 745-2112.

Man faces multiple charges

On Aug. 10, 2013, deputies received information that a woman at 139 Wright Lane, Clinton, was being held against her will. Deputies responded to the residence to find Jessica Turnbow, who had been inside the house, run out of the house. She had several apparent injuries sustained from allegedly being held for two days, according to the Van Buren County sheriff’s office.

Timothy L. Turnbow was arrested on charges of terroristic threatening, domestic battery and false imprisonment in connection with the incident. Turnbow is currently being held at the Van Buren County Detention Center on a parole hold.

Traffic stop leads to arrests

On Aug. 8, 2013, Van Buren County deputies were assisting with a traffic accident when a report of a hazardous driver resulted in a traffic stop on the reported vehicle. Investigation at the scene revealed that the driver had at least one outstanding warrant. Further investigation revealed the possession of suspected marijuana, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Johnathan Summers, 24, of Clinton, was arrested on two warrants and charged with possession of controlled substance. Chad Mallaney, 34, of Hot Springs, was charged with possession of a controlled substance. Both were transported to the Van Buren County jail.

Church break-in solved

On July 26, 2013, a member of Liberty Springs Church reported a break-in where suspects entered the church building and stole an iron stove used to heat the church. An investigation by the sheriff’s office revealed that there were three people involved in the incident, including a juvenile. The case is still under investigation, and multiple charges are expected to be filed.
