Effective next week, the single-copy price of the Van Buren County Democrat is increasing to 75 cents. The Democrat hasn’t had a single-copy increase in many years.
“Increases in the cost of labor, raw materials and transportation — basically the cost of doing business — are the culprits,” according to Publisher Byron Tate. “Our goal is to provide the very best local news coverage and to make it as affordable as possible for our readers. Although we are announcing a single-copy rate increase, we feel strongly that the Van Buren County Democrat is still a great bargain.”
Many newspapers across the country are already priced at 75 cents or more.
The rate increase will be put into effect on May 6, in all news-rack and in-store locations.
