Marshall man shot while driving

A Marshall man was struck by a bullet while driving on Highway 65 North in Van Buren County last week.

Cody Horton was heading home in the early morning hours of March 1, 2013, when he heard a loud “boom” and felt a sharp pain in the back of his neck, according to a report from the sheriff’s office.

Horton stopped his vehicle just south of Natural Bridge Road and deputies met him there.

According to the report, there was what appeared to be a bullet hole in the back glass on the driver’s side. The bullet traveled through the head rest and through Horton’s clothing before striking him in the back of the neck.

Horton was transported to Ozark Health Medical Center where he was treated and released.

The sheriff’s office, assisted by Arkansas State Police, investigated the incident and arrested Samuel Gates, 44, of Clinton.

Gates is facing several felony accounts in connection with the shooting, the report stated. Gates is being held at the Van Buren County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
