JPs hear hospital progress report

The Van Buren County Quorum Court met for less than 45 minutes at its regular meeting Oct. 18.

Van Buren County Board of Governors Chairman Donnie Collins gave a report on construction at the hospital. He said construction is making “great progress.” He said total expenditures to date are almost $6.6 million and about $7 million is left to spend. The contractor is about 70 percent complete with his work. Collins said construction should be completed by Dec. 10, 2012.

The justices of the peace unanimously voted to declare a vacancy in the position of Bradley Township constable after the resignation of Clifford Bartlett on Oct. 2. In his resignation letter, Bartlett said he had moved outside the township. Gov. Mike Beebe will appoint a replacement.

The board also approved a line item transfer of funds request of $45,015 to the sheriff’s office, including $26,000 for fuel, and $10,000 for repairs of machinery and equipment. $12,770 was approved in a line item transfer to the Van Buren County Jail.

JP Dale James requested a $500 check from special projects for the CALL. The CALL is an organization that helps find foster and adoptive homes for displaced children. It was approved.

The Quorum Court’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Nov. 15. It is open to the public.
