High-speed chase ends in Van Buren County

A high-speed chase that began in Conway ended Sunday in Van Buren County.

Conway police responded to a stolen vehicle call about 9:30 a.m. Sunday. When they located the stolen GMC truck, they found William Hawks of Perryville in the back seat, according to reports. He fled on foot but was quickly captured, the reports state.

Also at the scene was a second suspect who fled in a 2008 Ford truck carrying a Kubota Utility Vehicle in its bed, according to reports. That suspect was identified as Melissa Cummings of Conway.

With speeds in excess of 110 mph at times, the 30-mile chase ended in Van Buren County when the Ford ran out of gas, reports said. Cummings surrendered to police.

The Damascus Police Department assisted Conway police in the 30-mile chase, as did the State Police and Faulkner County sheriff’s office.

Cummings has been charged with felony fleeing. Hawks was arrested on felony warrants.
