Enrollment under way for USDA program

The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is accepting applications for financial assistance to address conservation concerns within the state’s quail focal area counties. Landowners in Van Buren, Fulton, Searcy, Conway, Faulkner, Ouachita, Union, Calhoun, Bradley, Ashley and Drew counties have until July 6, 2012, to apply for Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) funding for conservation practices that help wildlife.

“NRCS in Arkansas has provided financial and technical assistance to landowners for prescribed burning, early successional habitat development and management, forest density reduction, native warm season grass planting and upland wildlife habitat management on thousands of acres,” said Jena Moore, NRCS resource conservationist. “Our State Resource Assessment identified many wildlife habitat concerns across the state, and NRCS is making this funding available to address concerns within the quail focal area counties,” she said.

To apply for assistance, individuals in Van Buren County may visit their local USDA/NRCS field service center located at the county Courthouse Annex. Individuals may also call 745-5161 Ext. 3 for additional information.
