Driver, daughter killed in crash

A Bee Branch woman and her 4-year-old daughter were killed in a head-on collision last week.

Jamie Cathryn Barnum, 30, was driving east on Highway 124 near County Road 53 in Van Buren County 0n Thursday, July 17, when her 2005 Ford Taurus crossed the center line, according to a report by Arkansas State Police Trooper Glen Bates. The report said the Taurus struck the trailer of a Ford F350 that was heading west then struck head-on a 2008 Peterbilt truck that was also traveling west.

Barnum and her daughter, Paizlee Ann Barnum, were pronounced dead at the scene by Van Buren County Coroner Joe Tsosie. The driver of the Ford F350, John Stacy Dick, 36, of Heber Springs and the driver of the Peterbilt, Adrian Neil Allen, 24, of Conway were not injured, according to the report.

The accident occurred at 4:56 p.m., road conditions were dry and the weather was clear, the report stated. The deaths were the 230th and 231st highway fatalities of 2014, police records show. Three more road fatalities have occurred in the past week bringing the total in the state to 234.
