Damascus teen arrested after disturbance

A Damascus teenager has been arrested after a recent disturbance.

Van Buren County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to 1899 Highway East on a call of a disturbance. Deputies arrived to find the owner of the residence had been struck by a vehicle.

It appeared that John Huggins, 19, of Damascus had arrived at the residence with his girlfriend where a confrontation occurred with the property owner, Mitchell Burleson, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Huggins allegedly used a firearm to strike at least one of the people at the scene, according to the report.

After another physical altercation, Huggins made it to his vehicle. According to witnesses, Huggins then hit Burleson with the vehicle as he was leaving the residence, the report states.

Burleson was transported to Conway Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. There was no word on his condition.

Huggins was arrested a short time later without incident at a nearby residence, the report states.

Huggins was transported to the Van Buren County Detention Center where he faces several felony charges in connection with the incident.
