Challengers lead incumbents in Tuesday’s runoff election

Two Clinton election contests were decided in runoff elections Tuesday.

In the race for Ward 1, Position 2 on the Clinton City Council, longtime incumbent Richard Hink lost to Nina Bonds Baker.

Unofficial vote totals showed:

• Hink — 49.55 percent — 219 votes

• Baker — 50.45 percent — 223 votes

In the race for Clinton recorder/treasurer, Dena Thompson Malone defeated Wendy Henderson, who currently holds the position.

Unofficial vote totals showed:

• Henderson — 44.9 percent — 198 votes

• Malone — 55.1 percent — 243 votes

The totals did not include absentee or provisional ballots, which will be certified at a later date and — given the closeness of the Ward 1 race — could affect the outcome.
