An accident Sunday afternoon involving three vehicles left one woman dead and four people injured.

The accident occurred about 2:37 at Highway 65 and state Highway 330 East near Choctaw.

According to a report by Van Buren County sheriff’s Lt. Randy Gurley, a 2003 Dodge Durango heading north crossed the center line and sideswiped a southbound 2012 Dodge Avenger. The driver of the Avenger lost control and crossed into the northbound lane into the path of a 2008 Chevy pickup, the report said.

The driver of the Avenger, Linda Rice, 66, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was the wife of sheriff’s Lt. Paul Rice. Their granddaughter, Jennifer Whitbey, 9, was injured.

Also injured in the wreck were a family from Bentley, La., Anna B. Owens, 67, driver of the Chevy; Otto Manuel Owens III, 44; and Malaya Elaine Mercer Michaels, age unknown. Their conditions are unknown.

The driver of the Durango, Chad William Mallaney, 35, of Bolingbrook, Ill., was not injured.
