Rowell pretrial set for February

A man facing theft charges will be in court for a pretrial hearing in Van Buren County Circuit Court in February.

Billy Rowell, 23, of Bee Branch, has been charged with theft by receiving, a Class C felony, for being in possession of a 2001 Ford truck, according to court documents. He also has been charged with misdemeanor theft by receiving and fleeing on foot, also a misdemeanor.

Rowell tried to elude police in November, according to the sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s office said Rowell was had a role in several thefts in the Bee Branch area.

Circuit Judge David Reynolds set a pretrial hearing of Feb. 14, 2013, for Rowell.

Also in Circuit Court on Dec. 18:

• An arrest warrant was issued for Melissa Ann Philliops, 45, for failure to appear for a review hearing over a 2003 case.

• Cody Lee Moses, 25, was sentenced to 24 months at the Department of Correction with 48 months suspended after pleading guilty to residential burglary and theft by receiving. He also was ordered to pay $1,025 in restitution and $550 in court costs and fees.

• Timothy J. Wallace, 45, charged iwth possession of a controlled substance, was set for pretrial on Jan. 29, 2013. His case was moved from 1st Division to 3rd Division. Reynolds, the current 1st Division judge, will leave the circuit bench at the end of the year to take his seat as District judge. Charles Clawson is the 3rd Division judge.
