South Side students win dairy contest

High school Family & Consumer Science students competed in the annual Van Buren County Dairy Foods Contest in Clinton recently.

Each year the Arkansas Dairy Industry sponsors this contest to promote dairy products. The students can compete in one of two categories (Main Dish Category or Party Idea Category). The event was held at Petit Jean Electric and hosted by Van Buren County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee and the Van Buren County Cooperative Extension Service.

Paradise Purviance, a sophomore at South Side, won first place in the Main Dish category for Cheesy Lasagna Rosettes.

Zac Capps, a senior at South Side, won second place for Three Cheese Ravioli.

Will Pennington, a junior at South Side, won first place in the Party Idea category for Noodle Kugel.

Sierra Huie, a junior at Shirley, won secnd place for Strawberry Cream Cheese Cobbler.

Garrett Collums, a senior at South Side, won third place for Strawberry Trifle From Heaven Itself.

Paradise and Will have qualified for the state contest by winning first place in each of their respective categories in the county contest. Paradise and Will each won $20 prize money.
