Independent candidate Tom Hogan has withdrawn from the Van Buren County county clerk’s race.
Hogan said in an e-mail to the Democrat that unexpected changes compel him to withdraw from the race.
“Circumstances bring into question my capacity to complete the term,” Hogan wrote. “Ethics dictate this decision.”
Hogan said he appreciated all the people who have been supportive and encouraging.
Four candidates, one Republican, two Democrats and one independent, are still in the race for the seat, which was created by county voters who supported splitting the clerk’s office into a circuit office and a county office.
