Van Buren County is among those economically challenged sections of Arkansas that will benefit from a $50,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation.
Junior Achievement of Arkansas will present the “Grade School to Graduation” project, aimed at increasing students’ understanding of economics, business principles and the benefits of staying in school.
In Arkansas, graduation rates are slipping in lower socioeconomic areas, said Chad Kauffman, president of Junior Achievement of Arkansas. “Too many Arkansas students are dropping out before they earn a diploma,” he said. “If those students had graduated, it woul dmean millions of dollars in new revenues for the state.”
The other counties to benefit from the grant are Cleburne, Faulkner, Jefferson, Little River, Lonoke, Pulaski and White.
