Visiting Lodean Reeves last weekend were Tony and Mary Jane Hutchins and children Sarah, Josh and Caleb of Sioux City, Iowa. Tony is Lodean’s nephew.
Wanda and Paul Poynor went to Fort Smith last weekend and visited some old neighbors in Waldron.
Visiting Dorthy Cates last Tuesday were her granddaughter Jenny Wood and daughter Rylie and sons Dalton and Jacob of Conway.
Visiting Barbara Carroll this week are Charlene and Michael Troy and sons, Ryne and Garrett, of Ozarks, Mo. Charlene is Barbara’s granddaughter.
Around 110 people attended Watson Smith’s 100th birthday celebration. Those from out of state were Larry Hall of Orlando, Fla., Kay and Larry James of Raleigh, N.C., Nancy and Don Selvidge and a friend, Liz Webber, all of Mattoon, Ill., Mike and Nancy Bradford and Austin Bradford, all of Selma, Texas, Kelly and Meredith Clark and daughter Maggie of San Antonio, Texas, Tony George of Denver, Colo., Christian Bradford of Dallas, Texas, and Garrett Bradford of Washington, D.C.
Watson Smith was very pleased to have Stanley Russ there; he is an old friend and associate and our former state senator. Watson proved to us what a great memory he has. Watson’s brother, Boyd and wife Grace Smith of Hooks, Texas, also attended.
The old Allen building is almost gone, so things will look different the next time you drive through Shirley.

Churches in the Dennard are gearing up for their Easter celebrations. Worship times for The New Beginning Church on Highway 254 begin at 10:45 Easter Sunday. A potluck lunch will be served after services followed by an Easter egg hunt for the children. All are welcome to attend.
The Zoo church TNT on Highway 65 serves breakfast every Sunday from 8:30 to 9:15. Sunday services begin at 11 a.m. followed by an Easter egg hunt for the children as well.
Last note, there have been several thefts in the Dennard area. Report any suspicious activities to the sheriff’s office and remember to lock up!
