Melba Mackey of Mount Pleasant, Miss., recently came to visit her mother. Joan Allen. Joan went home with her and spent a few days.
Dorthy Cates and son Danny recently attended a birthday party for Rylie Wood of Conway. Rylie is Dorthy’s great-granddaughter and Danny’s granddaughter.
Labor Day weekend, Thelma Murray went with Patsy and Jesse Ward Jr. to a Ward family reunion of the descendants of the late Essie and Jesse Ward. The reunion was at the home of Bonnie and Alfred Drewry of Tilly. Around 70 people attended.
Saturday about 80 people attended the 50th anniversary celebration of Billy and Beckie Burgess. They were living in Texas for a while, but they gave in to Shirley, Ark., calling them back home.
Roy Jay Towery of Salt Lake City, Utah, is here this week visiting family and friends. Jack Towery is his uncle.
The Shirley Senior Center is planning to start having bingo games at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday mornings. If you like to play bingo for fun, come join us.
Several of the Shirley senior citizens helped with the fair last week. Kay and Wilburn Weaver, Carl Trahan-True, Thelma Murray and Phyllis Young were among them.
Kay Weaver, Inez Privitt and Lois Compton were judges in the Cleburne County Fair earlier this month.
Wilburn Weaver got four best of show ribbons; Jasper Burgess got three; Dawson Burgess got one; and Kay Weaver got two in our county fair.

The Teen Challenge woman’s group give their testimonies of recovery from addiction on Sunday at the 10:45 a.m. service in the Four Square Church. A potluck will follow. The public is invited. The church holds a fundraiser for next year’s school supplies giveaway Sept. 28 in Clinton.

The miracle of birth brings new life to all who experience it. Karen and Michael Kyle are experiencing for the first time the joys of life as grandparents. Their son Corey and his wife Brittney welcomed their beautiful baby girl on Aug. 25. She is their first grandchild and Corey and Brittney’s first child. Her name is Anna Lee Kyle. Congratulations to the Kyle family and welcome little Miss Anna Lee.
The Dennard Fire Department will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 17, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Our little angel, Hayley Drye, turned 3 on the 15th of this month. A belated happy birthday to Hayley and a thank you to her parents for sharing your precious little girl with us and bringing us so much joy.
