Hospice honors Korean War vet

John Scroggins was presented an appreciation certificate by Hospice nurse Stacy Hickmon for his years of service in the United States Navy.

Scroggins was a Navy commissary man during the Korean War and remembers baking bread for a crew of 2,400 men. He served from 1950-1953 for three years and nine months. He and his brother, Robert Scroggins of Oregon, were allowed to serve together on an aircraft carrier during part of the time because of the Brotherly Duty Act.

Scroggins was born and raised in Harrison and now lives in Dennard with his wife, Lenora. He has three children, Debbie Hall and Audie Scroggins of California, and Sam Scroggins of Marshall, Ark., and one step-daughter, Lisa Cates of Leslie, Ark.
