Reminding members of his hiking club that “You only live once,” Tom Welch says the groups next planned hike will be the infamous Goat Trail.
“The Goat Trail is narrow and dangerous, so use extreme caution. This 1/2 mile side trail travels along Big Bluff and at time is on the edge, with a 400 foot drop below into the Buffalo River. The view is amazing however, but use caution,” Welch quotes the trail’s description.
The roundtrip mileage to Big Bluff is 6 miles; Granny Henderson’s Cabin is 7 miles; and Hemmed in Hollow Falls is 10.8 miles. The trail is of moderate difficulty and there is access to water.
Welch sais the group’s typical Saturday strolls have been about 3 miles in length. They plan to leave Fairfield Bay at 7:30 a.m. March 6 and be back by 6 p.m.
