The Shirley Public School Foundation’s recent 18th annual Lucky Ducky Regatta was a bit unusual this year.
Due to the lack of rain, Weaver Creek was not flowing, so the hundreds of ducks were placed in a bag and drawn by state Rep. Robert Dale and Shirley Elementary Principal Randy Roberson.
The regatta is a featured attraction at the Shirley Homecoming festival. Prizes of more than $4,000 were donated by 62 businesses and individuals from Fairfield Bay, Clinton, Shirley and across the state, as well as Branson. Proceeds will benefit projects of the Shirley Public School Foundation, which includes funding the fall and spring teacher grants.
The top five winners of this year’s regatta were Erik Worthing of Shirley, $200 cash; Glenda Keenihan of Beebe, $200 cash; Stephanie Watts of Clinton, $100 cash; Mary Niec of Fairfield Bay, $100 cash; and Austin Baker of Shirley, $100 cash.
The next 10 winners received tickets to Branson attractions, gift certificates and other prizes. They were Samantha Shull, Steve Farris, Shannon Landon, Missy Worthing, Frank Privitt, Gary Edwards, Jamie Dublin, Tom McLerran, Stephanie Watts and Kathy McLerran.
