Dalton Day draws crowd as fundraiser marks 9th year

By Beth Bradford

The Morganton Fire Department was bustling with fun and fellowship on Saturday, April 27, in celebration of the 9th Annual Dalton Day. This benefit is held each year to raise money for the Dalton Walters Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fund was set in memory of 7-year-old Dalton Walters, who was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 2. With his passing five years later, the community came together and has now marked the last Saturday in April as Dalton Day.

Some of the day’s events included Live Music, a 5k Camo Fun Run, Outdoor Equipment Sale, T-shirt sale, and Wild Game and Fish Cook-off. This year’s race winners were Kenneth Collins, Brandon Collins, Lawrena Kerr, Katie Gross, Courtney Hutchins, Cortney Lane, and Julie Kerr. The Cook-off winners were Zack Walters and Joel Paget. Over $3,000 was raised this year and scholarship winners will be announced at the recipients’ graduation.

This year’s sponsors were Mount Zion General Baptist Church, Arkansas Dairy Co-op Association, D&J Trucking, Clinton Feed & Supply, Tennyson Trucking, J.R.’s Hickory House, Tennyson Properties, Maus Implement Co., First Service Bank, Clinton Livestock Auction, Linn Family Fireworks, and Edwards Snappy Food Mart.
